The Education and Experience Gant emblem design features a graduate cap and a moongate as the main focal points. The moongate motif aims to reference Bermuda. Additionally, in myth, moongates symbolize renewal. The moongate paired with the graduate cap inspires a renewal of interest and willingness to further education and professional experiences.

For the Mary Prince Award, we aimed to design a symbol that embodies hope and inspiration. Although this award is open to both male and female recipients, we chose to feature a strong female centerpiece to honor Mary Prince’s legacy. As there is no official portrait of Mary Prince, we created an abstract female silhouette, gazing back to reflect on her past and her story. The leaves incorporated into the design symbolize new growth, while the endless rope encircling the emblem represents unity, strength, and protection.

After exploring several concepts, we chose roots to represent legacy and a flame to symbolize the burning passion and lasting impact of their work. The surrounding leaves signify the unity of our people coming together as a fellowship. Together, the roots, leaves, and flame create a powerful emblem grounded in our culture, representing a forever-burning light that illuminates and inspires us all.

I was excited to create an emblem for Earl Cameron award. He was an inspiration for the spotlight he shone on Bermuda and his perseverance in his profession to represent diversity in the film industry . The dramatic masks were fashioned on his features and connect together with a film reel spotlight behind their heads.

The emblem for the Onion Bulb Grant embodies the themes of growth and transformation. Just as an onion begins as a humble seedling, a Bermuda kite starts from sticks and string, later soaring to incredible heights. The onion represents natural talent, while the kite represents the potential we can unlock through our craftsmanship.
The design in the middle of the kite is inspired by Bermuda blocks, arranged like shapes of butterflies and flowers. These blocks symbolise strength and resilience. This emblem illustrates that extraordinary achievements can stem from modest beginnings.

The emblem for the Bermuda Arts Council Lifetime Achievement Award draws inspiration from the Bermudiana flower (Sisyrinchium bermudiana), a symbol of resilience, creativity, and the Bermudian spirit. As an endemic plant, it thrives in our landscape, much like the esteemed awardees who have flourished in their artistic fields.
The star-like petals reflect their brilliance and enduring legacy, echoing the notion of a “star” on a walk of fame. The flower in full bloom honours their lifetime of artistic contributions, celebrating a body of work that continues to inspire Bermuda’s cultural landscape.

The concept I wanted to portray is giving and someone receiving and the ability of this gift to change lives which is touched upon through the Adinkra symbol Sesa Wo Suba. This symbol symbolizes the change or transformation of your character or your life.
